A six-week course of 90 minute workshops led by jazz vocalist and educator Yvonne Barrie. The series will cover the fundamentals of jazz singing, such as finding the apppropriate key, tempo and feel for the material, common jazz styles and structures, as well as how to work with other live musicians in a jazz setting. We will also look at different approaches to interpretaion and how to develop your own style.
A professional jazz pianist will be there to provide accompaniment.
You'll have an opportunity to put what you learn into practice at the monthly Derby Jazz Collective Jam Sessions. There will be an informal showcase on completion of the course where the singers will have the opportunity to perform to an audience with a live jazz band if they want to!
These workshops are for anyone over the age of 14 whether you're a complete newbie or already have some jazz singing experience.
