Greg Abate with The Belper Jazz Company

Mon 9th Nov | 7:30pm

New England saxophonist, flautist and composer Greg Abate combines swing’s easy-going vibe and bebop’s animated groove & inventiveness

Greg Abate’s diversified international career includes playing lead alto for the Ray Charles Orchestra in the 70's, tenor sax for the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra in the 80's, performing with numerous jazz greats and creating 23 albums as leader.  He’s busy - touring 275 days a year, teaching at Rhode Island College and is an ambassador for Conn-Selmer saxophones.

Greg’s UK tours include many jazz clubs and festivals, and he enjoys a special affinity playing with The Belper Jazz Company, a dynamic local jazz trio appreciated by Jazz Steps Live at the Library audiences, featuring Neil Hunter piano, Paul Gray double bass and Ian Beestin drums.

Abate is not content to rely on stock bebop riffs...his work has a feeling of constant invention and creativity” - Chicago Tribune
