Legendary band - not to be missed live at Jazz Steps!

We are delighted to welcome back Soft Machine who have added ‘Thirteen’ to the roster of Softs' numbered album titles.

Past experience suggests tickets will sell fast, so please be advised to book early if you intend to be there!

The current incarnation of the band is John Etheridge guitar, Theo Travis saxophones, flute, keyboards. Fred Thelonious Baker bass, Asaf Sirkis.

Whilst the line-up of Soft Machine may have changed many times since the heady days of the late 1960’s, the band’s spirit of musical adventure and fluency across progressive jazz-fusion, atmospheric psychedelia, improvised jazz-rock and ambient loop music, continues to make the 'Softs' both unique and totally contemporary. Definitely not a band to pigeon-hole!

Soft Machine is one of the greatest UK avant/jazz-rock bands of all time. They were contemporaries of, and shared stages with, Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd and the Jimi Hendrix Experience and became one of Europe's best known 'fusion' groups, influencing several generations of bands and being name-checked by today's hip experimentalists.

Jazzwise Magazine (Nov 2026 edition) feature the band in an interesting article whose headline ‘Out-Bloody Rageous’ is taken from a track on their celebrated 1970 double album Third: ‘Soft Machine have been a byword for innovation and reinvention for the past 60 years’. Jazzwise

This is bound to be a highly popular gig – so book early to avoid disappointment.
