Edgar Macías Quintet plays Buena Vista Social Club

Sat 16th Mar | 7:30pm

Buena Vista Social Club was a musical ensemble primarily made up of Cuban musicians formed in 1996. This name was also given to the album recorded by this extraordinary group of musicians in just seven days in Havana’s 1950s vintage EGREM studios. It was clear from the atmosphere of the recording sessions that something very special was taking place. However, no one could have predicted that Buena Vista Social Club would become a worldwide phenomenon, awarded a Grammy in 1997 and , at eight million copies, outselling any other record in the same genre.

This project brought to Lincoln is about the Edgar Macías Quintet’s 'take' on this album or rendition of it. Every single track from this landmark album has been re-arranged and adapted for a Latin Jazz Quintet format, based on the abilities of each member of the group.

Edgar Macías - piano & vocals

Chris Bowden - alto sax & hand percussion

Tom Hill - bass & vocals

Miles Levin - drums

Richard Sealy - congas & percussion

Jazzpac at The Blue Room

Jazzpac events are run by volunteers who organise live jazz events held at the Bue Room in Lincoln. We have an annual program of around ten gigs  a year presenting the best national and, occasionally, international musicians on the jazz scene today. Tickets for our events are available to book in advance although on most occasions will also be available to buy on the door. Whether you're one of our many regulars or it's your first time at one of our jazz nights, you'll always get a warm welcome from our volunteers on the desk and by the staff at The Blue Room. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like any more information about our jazz evenings at this charming venue in Lincoln's historic uphill area.
