Jazz-funk & the spoken word from band led by accomplished Jazz Poet and percussionist ''Stickman'

Dave 'Stickman' Higgins is a Jazz Poet with an innate sense of rhythm and pulse, and a love of syncopation and improvisation. His original spoken word and sounds are another instrument in this jazz Ensemble's accomplished delivery and repertoire.

In the late 1980s, Dave toured internationally as the drummer with Kalima, a band promoted by Manchester’s famous Factory Records and part of the acid jazz scene in London at the time. His current Ensemble are top-draw musicians.

Line-up: David Stickman Higgins vocals & percussion, Andy Metcalfe guitar, Karl Bingham bass, Barry Lee keyboards, Simon Potts drum kit

Dave's artistic expressions embrace poetry, percussion and performance, with themes that draw on his heritage - mum from Barbados, dad from Bury (Lancs), his life influences, healing and community.

Book now for this Inspire Poetry Festival special event! A rare opportunity to experience the memorable power, presence and innovation from the combination of jazz and spoken word.

Presented by Jazz Steps in partnership with Inspire.

Also, running alongside this gig, don't miss: ** FREE ** a linked exhibition in Worksop Library called BEYOND THE BASSLINE, running from 11th September to 3rd October

This special Inspire Poetry Festival gig complements the Beyond the Baseline exhibition which you can enjoy as part of this gig, and at other times.  The exhibition highlights different voices and perspectives on Black British music as a form of entertainment and vehicle for community, as well as a source of liberation, protest and education.

Beyond the Bassline draws on different places - such as carnivals, clubs and record shops - across the country,  that have cultivated creative expression and inspired a number of Black British music genres.

This is a taster of the full Beyond the Baseline exhibition shown at the British Library in London. inspireculture.org.uk/LKN
