Jazz Steps promotes contemporary jazz at venues in Nottingham and around the county. With a focus on contemporary jazz, our popular gigs feature bands and artists of international, national and regional standing whose music spans varied jazz genres.
For over 25 years our regular ‘residency’ has been the excellent Bonington Theatre venue at Arnold, Nottingham – complete with grand piano and dedicated sound engineer.
Also, since 2012 with partners Inspire, we have been delivering live jazz ‘on the doorstep’ for local communities across Notts, with gigs at four library venues, Monday to Thursdays, every month. We have two seasons, typically with around 20+ gigs held at 5 different venues.
We are active in developing jazz appreciation which includes support for jazz education and improvisation workshops that span all age ranges. Our recent book ‘The Jazz Steps Story’ –celebrates our evolution, building on a vibrant legacy of jazz in Nottingham. Jazz Steps is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation that is part of mjazz (Midlands Jazz), a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) under Arts Council England. We appreciate thesupport we get from both these organisations as well as Inspire, Gedling Borough Council,the Bonington Theatre and audience benefactors.
