Mark Trounson’s Disquiet recorded their debut album 'Malus and Clawback' in August 2019, for release in 2020, but a pandemic and parenthood intervened!
The repertoire of Disquiet draws on the influence of contemporary jazz as well as forms inspired by folk and rock music. The music blends conventional structures with riffs and free improvisation within a variety of different rhythmic feels. Inspired by some of the great composers of the music like Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Paul Motian and Reid Anderson, Mark's voice as a composer blends the playful and irreverent with the solemn and contemplative, sometimes within the same piece, reflecting on the absurdist drama of modern life.
The band is lead by bassist and composer Mark Trounson, on this occasion alongside Ronan Perrett on alto saxophone and clarinet, Hugh Pascall on trumpet and flugel horn, Billy Marrows on guitar, and Ben Brown on drums and percussion.
