Wednesday 16th April 2025 7:00PM

Join us in Derby for the next mJazz Hang, hosted by Derby Jazz.
Following the success of our Nottingham gathering, we’re bringing the East Midlands jazz community back together to connect, collaborate, and shape the future of jazz in the region.

🎯 What to Expect

🍽️ Food & Networking
Start the evening with a pizza and great company.
This is a chance to meet musicians, promoters, educators and organisers from across the East Midlands jazz scene.

💰 New Funding Announcements
During the evening, mjazz will unveil new funding opportunities for 2025–26:

  • A Touring Musician Fund to help local artists perform further afield
  • Small grants to support jazz jams and improv sessions
  • A Young Musicians’ Bursary to break down barriers for early-career artists

Come along to learn how you or someone you know can benefit.

🗣️ World Café Conversations
We’re taking a “world café” approach to spark meaningful dialogue. Attendees will rotate between four themed tables, discussing key issues in small groups. Conversations will be informal, creative and collaborative – a great way to make your voice heard and share your experience.

World Café Themes:

1. Building Artist Visibility & Opportunity

  • How do we raise artist profiles regionally and nationally?
  • What support is needed to access more gigs and connect with promoters?

2. Growing & Engaging Audiences

  • What works when drawing in new listeners – and what doesn’t?
  • How do we overcome the barriers to attending gigs, especially across the region?

3. Strengthening Jazz Infrastructure

  • How can jazz engage more effectively with education sector?
  • What do new promoters need to grow and develop?
  • What do jazz jams and workshops need to grow?

4. Sustaining a Regional Jazz Network

  • What does a truly collaborative East Midlands jazz community look like?
  • How can we ensure fair access, training, and stronger regional partnerships?

🎶 Jam Session
We’ll round off the evening with a jam session – open to all! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, this is your chance to play, experiment and meet other musicians in a low-pressure, welcoming environment.

Why Attend?
The mjazz Hang is all about building a vibrant, inclusive and resilient jazz ecosystem in the Midlands. If you're passionate about jazz – as a player, promoter, teacher, organiser or fan – this is a space for you.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Let’s make something happen – together.
