The Mark Nightingale / Alan Barnes Sextet featuring James Davison

Wed 20th Mar | 8:00pm
Book Here!

Mark Nightingale: trombone/ all arrangements. Alan Barnes: alto saxophone and clarinet. James Davison: trumpet and flugel horn. Jim Watson: piano. Jeremy Brown: bass. Ian Thomas: drums

The band was put together to play arrangements commissioned by John Billet of JBGB Events, who chose his favourite “Great Jazz Tunes”. Mark has applied his fecund imagination to these well known themes and come up with some brilliant re-thinks. Tunes you will recognise done in a completely new way by some of the best players around.

“Mark Nightingale tells the trombone what to do and does not allow it to set the parameters for his improvisations… tremendous fluency and flair”.- Leonard Feather

“Alan Barnes stylistic range is quite phenomenal… He has a wonderful capacity for suggesting a given style without actually imitating anyone” .

Dave Gelly, Masters Of The Jazz Saxophone.
