JONATHAN GEE ANGLO-ITALIAN QUINTET

Fri 7th Mar | 8:00pm
Tickets £15

Singer/pianist Jonathan Gee brings his unique blend of blues and contemporary jazz vocal to Derby Jazz ranging from Ellington through Ray Charles, to Stevie Wonder, Tom Waits, James Taylor and Oasis to his own inimitable songs. This quintet features UK star tenor saxophonis Denys Baptiste and three of Italy's top jazz musicians.

Jonathan Gee - Piano

Denys Baptiste - Tenor Sax

Gaetano Partipilo - Alto Sax

Pierluigi Balducci - bass

Fabio Accardia - drums

Jazz Journal recently reviewing his The Lions Revisited album (his eleventh) spoke of his 'fine voice....' that 'resonates with meaning'.

As a pianist his grounding in the Harlem stride element of Thelonious Monk, and his history playing with jazz legends Joe Lovano, Pharoah Sanders, Benny Golson and many others, and his legendary trio, means a true breadth of musicianship. He has performed in New York, Shanghai and all over Europe, appeared on BBC's In Tune and Loose Ends, and has a background as a TV songwriter and Edinburgh Fringe music theatre musical director, working with artists such as comedians Harry Hill and Jeremy Hardy, and pop chanteuse Alison Moyet.
