BASIL HODGE QUARTET

Sat 25th Jan | 8:00pm
Tickets £15

Basil Hodge - piano Tony Kofi - saxes Dave Whitford - bass Matt Fishwick - drums Pianist and composer Basil Hodge has been a mainstay of the British Jazz scene since the early nineties. Basil brings his popular and powerful quartet featuring the mighty Tony Kofi. The band will play Basil’s compositions from his critically acclaimed album 'A Point of Reference' plus songs from his impressive back catalogue. You will hear contemporary Jazz with a cohesive blend of swing Latin and funk rhythms.

Basil has been leading his bands (trio, quartet and quintet) since 1995 and has performed in such venues as Ronnie Scott’s, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth and National Theatre Foyers, the Swanage and Ealing Jazz Festivals, The Vortex Jazz Club, The Crypt, The Hideaway, Boxford Fleece, Watermills Jazz, The Bonington Theatre and The Verdict Jazz Club. He has played in various R&B and Gospel bands in the UK and abroad.

The quartet features the outstanding Tony Kofi. One of the very few UK jazz artists recognised as an equal by his US peers Tony has toured with The World Saxophone Quartet and Jamnaladeen Tacuma, and recorded with ORNETTE COLEMAN.

A new album A Point of Reference was released in November 2021 on Proper Records. A series of dates have been booked in 2022 to celebrate the new release. Tracks from the album have been featured on Jazz FM.

In 2022 Basil took part in some filming work for The Crown Series 6 (Netflix) and for Steve McQueen’s latest project based around Snake Hips Johnson. Basil was the pianist as part of a 1930’s/40’s Big Band in both sessions.
